Technics presents the SL-1200MK7, their most advanced turntable system to date, meticulously crafted with innovative technology and backed by years of research, delivering the pinnacle of professional turntable performance.
The SL-1200MK7 retains the classic direct drive system, utilizing a slow-turning motor that directly powers the platter. This time-tested method ensures exceptional performance, precise rotation accuracy, and robust torque from the motor. With this reliable system, minimal maintenance or part replacements are required.
A breakthrough development for the SL-1200MK7 is the incorporation of a coreless direct drive motor. This motor employs a coreless stator to eliminate cogging, which causes rotational irregularities. The rotor magnets have been optimized to enhance efficiency and increase torque performance, matching the standards set by the esteemed SL-1200MK5. As a result, the SL-1200MK7 delivers smooth rotation and impeccable sound reproduction with remarkable clarity.
The SL-1200MK7 introduces a new level of user control with its Torque/Brake Speed Adjustment feature. Leveraging the latest digital motor technology, users can fine-tune the torque and brake speed across four distinct settings, enabling them to find the perfect balance for their individual style and preference.
Furthermore, the Pitch Control Function allows for precise adjustment of the platter's rotation speed, with ±8% / ±16% adjustments available. The digital control of the motor, combined with positional detection of the slider and rotational control, eliminates unnecessary Digital-to-Analog (DA) conversion. This improvement enhances tracking performance and provides accurate pitch adjustments.
For the first time in the SL-1200 range, the SL-1200MK7 introduces the Reverse Play Function, expanding creative possibilities during performances. Alongside supporting 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, the unit now accommodates rotation speed of 78 rpm. The Reverse Play Function can be activated using a switch on the main unit, along with control over rotation speed and torque/brake speed.
The SL-1200MK7 incorporates a highly sensitive tonearm, inheriting the popular and dependable static-balance, universal S-shape design. Thanks to high-precision bearings, the tonearm achieves heightened initial-motion sensitivity compared to its predecessor, the SL-1200MK6. This results in excellent tracking performance and accuracy, minimizing stylus jumping even during scratching.
Enhancing user convenience, the stylus illuminator features a long-life, high-intensity LED and a push-type design, allowing it to seamlessly blend with the unit when not in use.
To preserve audio fidelity, the phono terminals on the rear of the unit are gold-plated, reducing sound degradation and improving conductivity. The design allows for easy disconnection of cables, simplifying cable and terminal maintenance.
Designed with audio excellence in mind, the SL-1200MK7's cabinet effectively minimizes resonance and distortion caused by external vibrations. Its die-cast aluminum chassis is bonded with ABS mixed fiber glass, forming a two-layer construction that enhances rigidity, support, and tensile strength.
The internal insulator employs a combination of rubber and springs, carefully tuned for optimal frequency characteristics, ensuring superb sound quality and resistance to howling. The SL-1200MK7 truly sets a new standard in professional turntables, offering unmatched performance, precision, and longevity.
